We are coming into the time of year that just makes you appreciate the sunshine and warmth it brings. It’s not quite hot enough to be uncomfortable and is the perfect time of year to start some outdoor activities with your family or friends. I love to see how many young mothers are out with their new babies as well as watching fathers jogging through the park with their children in one of those jogging contraptions.
It is also a great time of year to access your yard and gardens; especially if you are looking to sell your home anytime soon. The “curb appeal” is a major factor when selling a home. I cannot tell you how many properties I pull up to where the buyer says no before ever leaving the car! Though I can sometimes convince them to at least take a look, the seller has made a really bad impression. The inside better be immaculate to overcome the first impression.
If you need some help, call Teacup Gardener. They have done some wonderful work for sellers in the past getting their yards and garden in great condition to sell.
One of the best times to evaluate your yard’s landscaping needs is on the barest of winter days when you can see your yard in all of its glory or its mess. It’s amazing how much you can hide behind shrubbery and greenery from spring all the way through to late fall. However, once the leaves fall off, your yard is laid bare and you can go to work and decide what needs to be done to make your yard everything it can be.
It’s as if you get to start with a clean palate of sorts to see where hardscapes might be placed for entertaining or where a garden would look great and function well for your family. The bonus to having a well thought out yard is you get to enjoy it while you live there and it becomes a great selling feature when you get ready to sell it. That’s a win, win if I ever saw one.
If you need some help in designing a garden or just cleaning up your landscape, give me a call and I can hook you up with one of Nashville’s best.
The end of February is the perfect time to start cutting back those plants that are sitting listlessly in your flowerbeds or yard. It’s also a great time to really look at your plants, grass, fence and other outdoor structures that may need some work or just need replacing before you can enjoy them throughout the spring and summer months.
One of the best ways to start planning and prioritizing is to make a master list with everything you can think of that you want to get rid of, replace or fix out in your yard. If you need some help, it’s a great time to hire someone to help you decide what to do in your yard that will give it that “pop” you are looking for. This will make you feel better about staying in a home that you thought you would be selling by now or give you a leg up on the competition if you plan on selling your home within the next year or so. After all, first impressions can make or break a deal!
You read everywhere these days about making concessions and giving away trips and cars, etc. in order to entice people to come look at your house and buy it quick. Though those things are more popular in other areas, they can be used as positive motivation for a buyer. However, no one wants to look at the inside of a house if it looks bad on the outside and it’s hard to get a house looking really good on the outside this time of year; so what can you do?
There is one of two things that you can do to help the look of your home this time of year. One is to make sure your gutters are cleaned and your yard is picked up to present a very nice and neat area. This means pulling up the dead annuals, raking leaves and picking up any “gifts” left for you by the pets. The other is to get rid of any clutter that is outside of your home on the porch, deck or driveway. This opens up the space and makes everything look cleaner and bigger. This is the same for inside a home as well and one of the reasons many people rent a storage facility to house some of their household items while the home is being sold. You can also hire professional landscapers and stagers to help you as well if you are having difficulty with the process.
It’s the time of year we prepare for school to start back, football to begin (mainly the Tennessee Titans!) and start to clean up the yard as we get ready for the winter months ahead. It’s also a great time to lay the foundation for a yard or garden path.
We stop mowing the lawn as much and the flowers and gardens start to slowly fade away as growing comes to its bitter end. What a perfect time to get out and lay some paving stones, rock or slab. This will help the growth stay away next spring where you want it to, leaving you with a beautiful pathway!
If you lay newspaper underneath the stones or slab it will help suffocate that growth as well as deteriorate over time making the process “green”. My husband’s favorite part about working in the yard this time of year is the weather. The cooler mornings and evenings are perfect for a little yard work.
